New Prospective Client and New Ideas for a Business

I'm excited to announce my first potential client for freelancing. I might be creating a website for a lady I met through ravelry.com to create a new website for her button company. I really hope it all works out! Right now I'm doing research on web-hosting and working on figuring out if I'll need to find some help to complete the site. I will be starting layouts very soon and will be looking forward to seeing what I come up with.

In other news, I've decided I want to be a paintball sports photographer. I've shot some decent photos and will try to get them uploaded sometime soon. I'm using a point-and-shoot at this point which I know Isn't the greatest (especially for sports!) but if I can create great images with this camera, imagine what amazing shots I'll get with a nice new camera! I'm thinking that purchase will be a Christmas gift or something so look forward to seeing some drastic improvements in my shots once that happens.

Current Happenings

I've met what I believe to be one of the greatest companies in Peoria. I've had one interview already and am looking forward to my second interview later this morning. If this career works out, I will be more than happy! If this job works out, I'll never regret waiting and turning down other jobs to find just the right place to work. Honestly, I think this position will really fulfill my desire to work on projects that use my abilities and allow me to learn more skills as well. Everyone wish me luck and I will post once I know more. :)

Upgrades

I've decided to take some advice from a friend to try to add the websites and videos on my portfolio instead of just screen shots. The reason I went with screen shots was because at the time of my site's inception I was not going to register any web space and put it on flash drives instead which means there'd be little space available to hold all my projects. But, since I decided to register web space I know have that option.

So, I'm glad to announce that my websites are up to view. Unfortunately I couldn't post my actual synthesis project because it uses server side scripting which I've yet to figure out for sure if my host allows it. I'm currently in the process of adding my videos followed by my 3-D clips, so keep your eyes peeled for these projects.

In career news, I've applied to a few other companies in the area and am waiting for a call. I'm so excited to have applied to some really great companies so I hear. I will be looking forward to meeting with them soon and I'm sure things will turn out well.

Bradley Job Fair

Tomorrow is the Bradley Job Fair and I think I'm pretty well prepared. I spent over an hour at Kinko's yesterday printing out my business cards and spent about two hours cutting them out today. I went with a puzzle piece shape for my cards because it ties into my portfolio site and the idea that my work is like a puzzle because I mix mediums using "compositing" methods.

I have my eye on one company in particular that will be at the job fair. I've already had a phone interview with them yesterday and I think it went pretty well. I'm excited to possibly have the opportunity to work for a company that promotes creativity. I've only heard good things about them which is also a plus. I will be looking forward to meeting some of their representatives tomorrow.

Portfolio is Live!

Late last night I discovered that parts of my portfolio would never work without the site going live so I went ahead and gave in to some web space. I'm really glad I went ahead and did this because my site looks pretty good. Now you can check it out here: www.gumbiedesign.com

I'm going to adjust my contact email to the site's email within the week. The plan for this week is to email the employers I'd applied to earlier and let them know they can take a look at the site. I'm so excited!!

Porfolio almost complete!

I'm proud to announce that my portfolio is just about complete. After starting from scratch in December, it's been quite an adventure trying to put together my portfolio on such short notice. I must say that the new look is a far improvement over my old HTML sight and I'm glad to have a reason to update it finally.

There will always be things to do to improve it but for the time being, I think potential employers will be pleased to see my work presented this way. I'm a little disappointed in the quality of the transition videos but with After Effects 6.5, I have felt pretty limited in what I can create. In the future, the video clips will be replaced with .flv files once I can find a copy of AE7. Overall, I'm pleased with the results and hope that future employers are pleased as well.
